A series of masterpieces of Third Cinema from the 1960s and 1970s are coming to Naples for the first time in restored versions. The series, titled "Manifestos for a Free Cinema – The Wretched of the Earth," is organized by Italian International Cinema and supported by the City of Naples through the Cohousing Cinema Napoli project. The screenings will take place from March 18th to May 7th at the Multicinema Modernissimo in Naples.
Collaborations and Objectives
The initiative is curated by Armando Andria and Gina Annunziata, with the collaboration of the Cineteca di Bologna and the Film School of the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples. This review represents a cinema where political emancipation merges with aesthetic evolution. The films come from Africa, Latin America and the Middle East and will be accompanied by critics and experts.
Meetings and Masterclasses
The festival also includes a meeting with Cecilia Cenciarelli of the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna and a masterclass held by Ala Eddine Slim. The events aim to highlight the legacy of Third Cinema, promoting a dialogue between different cultures through independent artistic expressions, often subject to censorship.
