The Royal Palace of Naples is preparing to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Giacomo Casanova with a special event. From May 20, in the Appartamento di Etichetta, three works by the Venetian painter Giambattista Pittoni, dating back to the XNUMXth century, will be exhibited.
Article Key Points
The works, depicting Venus, Diana and an unpublished Apollo, come from an American collector and will be accompanied by materials from the Casanova collection of Aldo Ravà, preserved at the Correr Museum Library.
The Life of Giacomo Casanova
Giacomo Casanova, born in Venice in 1725, is known for his career as a writer, diplomat and esotericist, as well as for his love affairs. Naples was one of the European cities that saw him pass through, and it is here that he stayed five times. The connection between Casanova and Naples is illustrated by Benedetto Croce in his text “Aneddoti e profili Settecenteschi”.
Rediscovered Works
The paintings on display were considered lost until they were found and recognized by art historian Andrea Gianluca Donati, who also curates the exhibition. According to Paola Ricciardi, Delegate Director of Palazzo Reale, “This exhibition represents an opportunity to reweave the threads of a little-known story that links Naples to Venice."
Visitors who wish to explore these works will be able to access the exhibition with the entrance ticket to the Royal Palace. The event offers a new perspective on one of the most famous figures of the 700th century, celebrating, through art, the history that links Naples and Venice.

The event at the Royal Palace seems very interesting, but I don't know if it's a good idea to celebrate Casanova. Sure the works are beautiful but not everyone knows his story and his loves. Naples needs more events like this.
Casanova anniversary in Naples seems interesting, but I wonder if the works exhibited are really authentic and how they were recognized by art historians. I hope everyone can enjoy this exhibition.
