After years of closure of the San Gennaro Park, and months after the start of the redevelopment works on the Park; to date everything is at a standstill.
The Park is still closed, and the work is still in its early stages. The municipal administration speaks of delays due first to the lack of municipal staff, then to issues regarding the possession of the necessary documents by the contractor.
The latest rumors seem to announce further delays. In all this, the Municipality does not provide clear information, and the months pass. Spring is upon us and the park continues to be closed.
Furthermore, the Municipality is working on approving a municipal regulation that seems to open up to the intervention of private actors in the management of public parks. This fact, together with the persistent closure of the Park, makes us fear about the administration's desire to allocate the space to profit-making activities for the benefit of private individuals, who would therefore deprive the neighborhood of one of the few public meeting places for residents and children.
For this reason we return to forcefully ask the administration to return the Park to the citizens and we want to reiterate our firm position of opposition to any involvement of private individuals in the management of the green space, in any form. The San Gennaro Park is a public good and must remain so, free and fully accessible to all citizens.
We have called a demonstration on March 21st at 15:30 pm in Piazza Sanità, to communicate our position clearly and firmly.
The procession will move towards San Gennaro Park, where a banner will be hung and statements will be made to the press.
