Naples – An operation by the State Police led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Gambian, caught last night in the heart of the Historic Center with a quantity of drugs and cash.
The young man, already known to the police for previous criminal convictions, including specific ones relating to drugs, was subjected to the precautionary measure of the obligation to sign in at the Judicial Police.
The intervention was triggered during a patrol service of the Vasto-Arenaccia Police Station. The officers, while passing through via Alessandro Poerio, at the intersection with via Alfonso d'Aragona, noticed an individual engaged in a suspicious exchange: the man handed over an object to another person in exchange for money, with the alleged buyer who immediately walked away at a rapid pace.
The police intervened promptly and stopped the 27-year-old, subjecting him to a check. They found on him 15 bags of marijuana, for a total weight of about 20 grams, 3 sticks of hashish, equal to about 5 grams, and 150 euros in cash, divided into small denomination banknotes, presumably the proceeds of the illicit activity.
In light of the evidence, the man was arrested on charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing. The operation is part of the strengthened controls in the territory, aimed at combating the phenomenon of petty crime and drug trafficking in the most sensitive areas of the city.

The police operation seems right, but I wonder if it is enough to stop drug trafficking in the city. There are more and more young people involved and the measures do not seem to work as they should.
