Naples, kidnapping for a luxury car: six arrests, one linked to the Mazzarella clan

Naples - An intricate kidnapping case, with implications linked to organized crime, has shaken the city of Naples.

Six men have been arrested on charges of kidnapping and beating two people in a settling of scores over the disappearance of a sports car worth €80.000. One of those arrested was found to have ties to the Mazzarella clan of San Giovanni a Teduccio.

The six kidnappers were arrested in flagrante delicto and taken to prison. They are Salvatore Giannetti, Antonio Martori, Arturo Lama, Mario Amaro, Giuseppe Ciccarelli and Salvatore De Filippo.

The story

It all started with the rental of the luxury car at an agency in the eastern district of Naples. The renter, after obtaining the keys to the car, resold it to an unsuspecting buyer. When it was time to return the car, he reported a theft, but the agency, thanks to the GPS installed on the vehicle, discovered the deception.

At that point, the friends of the defrauded organized a punitive expedition. The renter was summoned to a bar and beaten, and during the attack the name of an accomplice emerged. The latter was picked up and taken to an apartment in via Castagnola, where he was also joined by the renter, who in the meantime had been kidnapped in a bar in Fuorigrotta.

The intervention of the police

The two kidnapped people were interrogated with violence and death threats, to force them to return the car and to pay compensation for the damage of 80.000 euros. Fortunately, the screams coming from the apartment alerted the neighbors, who called 112. The Carabinieri of the Naples radiomobile unit intervened promptly, breaking into the house and freeing the two hostages.

Investigations are still ongoing to clarify all the details of the incident and to ascertain any responsibilities of other people involved.
