Naples – After Milan, Genoa, Florence, Prato, Modena, Bologna, Turin, Padua, Perugia and Pescara, Legambiente's traveling campaign "Citta2030, how mobility is changing" has stopped in Naples, with the aim of promoting sustainable mobility to make our cities more liveable and safe.
This morning, Legambiente volunteers , citizens, and associations gathered in Piazza Dante for a flash mob to demand the reinstatement of the ZTL. "The ZTLs," said Paola Silvi, president of the Legambiente Parco Letterario del Vesuvio club, "are intended to be an initial strategic response toward a structural change in urban mobility.
For the Naples stage of Legambiente's Città 2030 campaign, we chose to be in Piazza Dante, where committees and associations have long been clamoring for the reactivation of the ZTL, unfortunately suspended since November 30, 2022 and no longer reactivated. In the meantime, the situation has certainly not improved and in a place where 80 thousand cars pass by every day, the air is increasingly unbreathable with continuous traffic jams and paralysis of traffic.
We welcomed with great pleasure the decision of Municipality 2 on the reopening of the Tarsia-Pignasecca-Dante ZTL taken with a resolution of the Council on February 19th. This is a courageous and far-sighted measure that we hope will also be taken by the Municipality which has the final say on the matter. We now appeal to the councilor to follow up on the Municipality's decision to start a change from Piazza Dante for a more modern and liveable city overall".
Legambiente's campaign in Naples is important but I wonder if the ZTL can really solve the traffic and pollution problems. We must also consider other factors such as public transport which is not always reliable.
I read the article and I agree that the ZTL is a step in the right direction, but it would be useful to involve more citizens in the decision-making process to find shared solutions. Participation is fundamental.
The article talks about something important for Naples, but I don't understand why it takes so long to reactivate the ZTL. People need cleaner air and less traffic. Let's hope things improve.
