Rome – Pope Francis will leave the Policlinico Gemelli tomorrow, after two weeks of stable conditions. The pontiff will continue his convalescence at Santa Marta house, where he will remain under observation for at least two months.
It was announced by the Professor Sergio Alfieri, head of the medical team that followed the Holy Father“The most serious infections have resolved themselves, some viruses and fungi have reduced, but it will still take time to eliminate them completely,” he explained to journalists.
The recovery of the voice was intervened by Dr. Luigi Carbone, the Pope's medical representative in the Vatican: “The timing is difficult to establish, but the improvements give hope for a rapid recovery.”
Specialists also highlighted the importance of home convalescence: “The hospital, paradoxically, is the least suitable place for long-term recovery, due to the risk of new infections,” Alfieri underlined.
During the time in Santa Marta, Pope Francesco will have available oxygen and continuous health care thanks to the emergency service active in the Vatican 24 hours a day.
