An innovative project explores the roots and evolution of Neapolitan song, with the support of conductor and composer Peppe Vessicchio and musicologist Raffaele Di Mauro. The initiative, called “Il Canto di un Regno – Forms, vocality and musical peculiarities of Neapolitan song”, aims to celebrate the rich musical heritage of Naples. The meetings intend to highlight the “cultured” and “popular” characteristics of the genre, through a detailed study of its historical development.
Between history and melody
The program consists of eight meetings that will guide enthusiasts on a journey through musical history, from the villanelles of the 16th century to modern interpretations in festivals. The events will offer a detailed analysis of the influences and transformations of Neapolitan song. Among the participants, artists and scholars such as Gianni Lamagna, Maurizio Pica, Pasquale Scialò, and others, will offer their expertise to the public. Each meeting will also offer the possibility of obtaining dedicated scholarships.
An immersive experience
“Il Canto di un Regno” is configured not only as a series of lessons, but also as a show enriched by live performances and sharing of historical curiosities. Peppe Vessicchio underlined the importance of this musical heritage, while Raffaele Di Mauro aims to reveal the secrets of this repertoire through careful analysis. The event will start on March 7 at 17 pm at the “Porta del Parco” auditorium in Bagnoli, organized by Vincifactory, a training center that offers numerous educational opportunities, including artistic training courses and masterclasses recognized at European level.

The initiative sounds interesting but I don't know much about Neapolitan music. The speakers are good, but I hope it's not just an event for experts. Music is for everyone, so it would be nice to include other art forms as well.
