Rome - "Interventions should have been made 30 years ago, without the emotional push of the streets. We have allocated 600 million in just 2 years to secure public infrastructure starting with schools, in June 8 construction sites will begin for the schools of Naples and Pozzuoli, we will fix the port of Pozzuoli. But if instead of doing it in 2 years it was done in 30-40 years, people would feel safer". This was stated by the Minister for Civil Protection In the Musumeci to Skytg24.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan City of Naples has allocated 35 thousand euros for the purchase of CO2 detectors and 500 thousand euros for the construction of forced ventilation systems in schools affected by anomalous concentrations of CO2, which allow adequate air circulation and prevent dangerous accumulations of toxic gases in closed environments.
The deputy metropolitan mayor, Giuseppe Cirillo, on the mayor's recommendation, Gaetano Manfredi, in fact, signed this morning two resolutions which provide for specific budget variations to deal with the CO2 emergency that is occurring in a delimited area of the Phlegraean zone, between the municipalities of Naples and Pozzuoli, which includes ten secondary school complexes under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan City.
“We intervened with the utmost urgency to find the resources to resolve the problem of the anomalous concentration of CO2 levels in the schools under our jurisdiction, based on the indications provided by the scholars of the INGV and the Vesuvius Observatory, in collaboration with the Fire Brigade and the technicians of the Metropolitan City”, stated the deputy mayor Cirillo.
“Together with Mayor Manfredi – he added – we believe that the safety of our children and all school staff is an absolute priority, and that we must make the utmost effort to guarantee the right to education to young people in the Phlegraean area, with interventions and controls of absolute rigour”.
In the capital, the institutions involved are the Nitti and the Righi in Viale Kennedy, the Vittorio Emanuele in via Barbagallo, the Boccioni Palizzi and the Gentileschi in via Nuova Agnano, the Rossini and the Labriola in via Terracina, in addition to the branch of the Rossini in via di Pozzuoli. In Pozzuoli, however, the Virgilio in via Vecchia San Gennaro and the Petronio in via San Gennaro Agnano fall within the area.
The CO2 detection instruments, cutting-edge devices equipped with acoustic and visual alarms, will be installed in the basements and semi-basements of schools located in the affected area, as established by the CCS, the Relief Coordination Center located at the Prefecture of Naples, to provide constant and continuous monitoring of carbon dioxide levels.
In recent days, in fact, it was necessary to close the Virgilio institute in Pozzuoli and the Rossini institute in via Terracina in Naples precisely because of the detection, respectively in the gym and in the kitchen areas, of CO2 concentrations higher than the permitted threshold of 5.000/ppm due to the bradyseismic phenomenon.
“The allocation of half a million euros for forced ventilation works – concluded the deputy mayor – is in addition to the sum already allocated to the maintenance of the technological systems of the schools in the area, equal to approximately two million, for a total that rises to two and a half million”.

It is important that interventions are made but I do not understand why they were not done before. Schools are a place where children spend a lot of time and safety is fundamental for them and for the staff.
