The State Police, under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office, has identified and arrested the person responsible for a scam against a ninety-year-old, carried out last September using the fake carabiniere technique.
According to the investigations of the Flying Squad, the scammers contacted the elderly man, pretending to be soldiers serving in Piacenza, with the excuse of having to carry out administrative disputes. Having discovered that the man lived with his daughter, they convinced her to go to the nearest barracks to pay a fine related to using a cell phone while driving.
While the woman was being held on the phone to prevent her from returning, an accomplice called the elderly man claiming that his daughter risked arrest if she did not immediately pay 6.000 euros.
In a panic and isolated, the man collected cash and jewelry worth about 20.000 euros and handed them over to a young woman, who was in charge of collecting them. Footage from a surveillance camera allowed her to be identified: an 18-year-old resident of Naples, filmed as she left the area in a taxi to reach the station.
Analysis of phone records revealed that the girl had attempted another scam a few days later, again in Piacenza. In that case, the daughter of a recently deceased elderly man had been deceived with the same method, but the scam had failed because there was no one left in the house to deceive.
Up to that point, with no criminal record, the young woman was reported for aggravated fraud and attempted fraud, with the obligation to leave the province.
Investigations continue to identify the other members of the gang and reconstruct the system of receiving stolen goods.

The article is very interesting and makes you think about how scams can also affect elderly people. It is sad to know that there are people who exploit the vulnerability of others. I hope that measures will be taken.
