Kiev has given its approval to the US proposal for an immediate 30-day ceasefire. According to a joint statement issued by the US and Ukrainian delegations meeting in Jeddah, both Kiev and Washington have taken measures to restore lasting peace for the Ukrainians.
The ceasefire can be extended by both sides and, for it to be realized, it will obviously have to be respected by Russia as well. US Secretary of State Rubio has announced that the United States will make it clear to Russia that respecting the truce is an essential condition for achieving peace.
Rubio also expressed hope that the Russians would respond quickly so that they could move on to the phase of real negotiations. Ukrainian President Zelensky said he was confident that the truce would succeed, provided that the United States could convince Putin's Russia.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin neither confirms nor denies reports that Trump's envoy, Witkoff, may be arriving in Moscow on Thursday. In the coming days, high-level talks between the United States and Russia will take place in Saudi Arabia, CNN reported.
