Naples – After the violent brawl in Vomero that broke out on Saturday evening in Piazza Vanvitelli, leaving two 18-year-old boys injured and hospitalized, there is room for controversy.
Article Key Points
According to initial reconstructions, the episode occurred around midnight, when two groups of young people clashed for reasons that are still unclear, but which, as often happens, could be linked to a banal provocation or a comment directed at a girl.
I two injured, both 19 years old, were transported to theCardarelli hospital: one was stabbed, the other suffered a head injury after being attacked with a helmet. Police officers and army soldiers intervened on the scene, but criticism was not long in coming.
The complaint of the associations
The alarm was raised by the representatives of the Network for the Safety of Minors and Adolescents, who collected direct testimonies of the fight.
“A twenty-year-old killed in the Rione Sanità. An attack with knives and helmets a few hours later in Piazza Vanvitelli. In a moment of maximum alert for our territory, in such a delicate phase for the entire population, violence among very young people does not stop.
We will ask the Prefect again to implement prevention and control measures"; they write on social media asking for a immediate meeting with the Prefect.
According to them, on Saturday evening there was a crowd in the pedestrian area just a patrol of the police forces, insufficient to manage an already critical situation.
Violent movida and criticism of institutions
The episode has reignited the debate on the violent nightlife that has long characterized Vomero, a neighborhood known for being a meeting point for young Neapolitans. Rino Nasti, leader of Europa Verde in the Vomero-Arenella Municipality, reiterated the need for a permanent presence of law enforcement: «After midnight, the crowd of very young people is impressive. Constant monitoring is needed to prevent situations like these from happening again».
The Gennaro New Year, Chairman of the Collinari Values Committee and founder of the group Committee against baby gang and the violent nightlife, expressed his outrage at what happened: «Yet another brawl in piazza Vanvitelli It brings up unsolved problems. Institutions must move from words to action, with concrete and continuous interventions to eradicate a phenomenon that has now become a plague".
National politics under accusation
The controversy has also spread to the national level. Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a member of the Green-Side Alliance, criticized the government's lack of concrete responses: "While the blood continues to flow, no solutions are forthcoming. Indeed, we are astonished to learn of the imminent closure of another Carabinieri barracks, this time in San Gennaro Vesuviano. How can we fight crime if the territorial garrisons are dismantled?"
Meanwhile, residents of Vomero continue to live the weekend nights with concern, loudly calling for immediate interventions to ensure safety and prevent new episodes of violence. The fear is that, without a change of direction, Piazza Vanvitelli could soon return to the forefront of crime news.

Reading this article it seems to me that the situation in Vomero is becoming increasingly serious. Young people should have fun without violence, but instead there are fights and injuries that should not happen. More controls are needed.
