Everything is ready for the fourth edition of the "Living in the Volcano" event. The event will be held next Tuesday, March 18th, at 4:00 PM at the Accademia dei Campi Flegrei in Pozzuoli. This edition's main theme will focus on "infernal myths, literary references, devotions, and the high scientific value" linked to the enduring allure of the Phlegraean Fields and Rocca San Felice.
A Journey Through Myths and Science
This year, the event will focus on two emblematic places, present in the sixth and seventh books of the Aeneid: the Mefite dell'Alta Irpinia and Lake Averno in Pozzuoli. These two lakes, characterized by different origins, one sulphurous and the other volcanic, represent the two entrances to the Campanian underworld. The aim is to conduct an in-depth study of the geological, naturalistic and anthropological heritage, promoting an event in the name of social, cultural, scientific and scholastic inclusion.
Collaboration and Participation
The exhibition is the brainchild of Anna Russolillo and Franco Foresta Martin, with the coordination of experts such as the professors of Geomorphology Valerio Agnesi, Pietro Aucelli, Michele Sisto, the volcanologist of the INGV Sandro de Vita, Federica Russolillo of Lunaria Onlus A2, the archaeologist Anna Abbate, Sonia Gervasio and Francesco Celli of InfoIrpinia.
Important Presences
The presentation conference will be attended by the mayor of Pozzuoli Luigi Manzoni, the director of the Vesuvius Observatory (INGV) Mauro Di Vito and the president of the Regional Park Authority of the Campi Flegrei, Francesco Maisto. The event will be moderated by the journalist Gianni Ambrosino.
The event seems interesting but there are many things that are not clear. I do not understand well what are the myths that will be discussed and how the scientists will participate. I hope to have more information before the event.
