Rome is preparing for an event that promises to shake the foundations of the contemporary music scene. On April 10 and 11, 2025, the renowned composer and experimenter Alvin Curran, an undisputed icon of innovative music, will bring his creative genius to the walls of the University of Roma Tre and the Teatro Palladium.
A High Quality Academic Initiative
Organized by Lara Conte as part of the PRIN PNRR project “ASE – Art Sound Environment: Towards a New Ecology of Landscape”, the event is made possible thanks to the Department of Philosophy, Communication and Entertainment of Roma Tre. On April 10, a round table at DAMS (Via Ostiense 139, Room 2.14, from 17.00:19.00 pm to XNUMX:XNUMX pm), entitled **”Around Alvin Curran. Trajectories and places of experimentation in Rome, between visual arts and sound research,”** will see Curran joined by researchers from various institutions. In this meeting, institutional greetings by Luca Aversano will also be heard, as well as various interventions that will highlight the composer’s contribution to experimental music and the relationship between art and the environment.
Exclusive Performance at the Palladium Theatre
On April 11th, it will be the turn of the Teatro Palladium (Piazza Bartolomeo Romano 8, 21.00:XNUMX p.m.), which will host the performance **”Endangered Species.”** This work, which welcomes the audience on a journey into the world of sound, is based on an archive of over three thousand audio files. During the performance, Curran will improvise in real time, creating **“a musical fresco”** where sounds intertwine in a unique and unrepeatable experience on every occasion.A Musical Legacy of Experimentation
Curran’s influence on contemporary music is undeniable, starting from his first steps with the Musica Elettronica Viva collective. His ongoing artistic research has challenged conventions, employing environmental sounds and engaging the public in new ways. In the 1980s, he explored spatial sound and site-specific interventions in historical and natural contexts, such as the iconic Baths of Caracalla and the Quarry of Stone in Matera. The exhibition on Curran is part of the PRIN PNRR project “ASE – Art Sound Environment: Towards a New Ecology of Landscape,” which examines the connection between art, sound and landscape, emphasizing an interactive and horizontal approach with nature and communities. Admission to the events will be free until seats are filled, thus reserving an opportunity not to be missed for lovers of contemporary music and art.Article published on 3 April 2025 - 18:00
The event in Rome looks very interesting but I don't know if I'll be able to go, especially on the 10th because I already have commitments. However, Curran's music is always a great opportunity to discover new things.
