There are many ways to invest in financial markets and there are many instruments that an interested person can opt for.

When choosing shares of companies listed on the stock exchange, such as those listed on the Italian Stock Exchange, one should first look at the factors that can directly and indirectly influence the performance of the shares.

In fact, shares are not something disconnected from physical reality; on the contrary, they represent “a piece” of a company that actually operates in a specific industrial sector: telecommunications, energy, transportation, healthcare.

In the following paragraphs we will briefly illustrate which economic factors to keep an eye on when deciding to add the shares of a listed company to your personal financial portfolio.

Buying Stocks: The Approach to Securities

In principle, there are two types of approaches to investing in stocks. The first is sectoral, starting from an analysis of the industrial sector to arrive at the selection of the most interesting stocks. The second approach starts from a company listed on the stock exchange and from there the analysis expands to the industrial sector to which it belongs.

The sector approach is adopted by those who have adequate knowledge of a certain industry (for example, sports), and therefore decide to discover all the listed companies that refer to the sector.

The approach that starts from a listed company is, instead, practiced by those who possibly have a certain “affection” towards the brand or know that company in particular.

In both cases you have to go through a investment platform to invest in stocks representative of all economic sectors, and which provides investors with a wide range of analysis tools to help them choose the securities to add to their financial portfolio.

Buying Stocks: Factors to Consider

So, what are the factors to consider? Starting from the industrial context, it's important to focus on the critical issues and opportunities.

For example, if our interest is in new technologies, and in particular on artificial intelligence (AI), it is worth asking whether, after the explosive growth of AI-related stocks, the end of the “wow effect” is not near.

When the starting point is a specific company, it becomes appropriate to know the latest annual balance sheets, the industrial plan for the next few years, and also the opinions that rating companies publish periodically. From here the analysis will have to be expanded to the reference industrial branch.

In any case, once you have chosen the stock to invest in, it is important to find out the geographical area in which the company operates. In fact, smaller companies may have chosen to go public in order to internationalize their business, but at present they may still be very tied to a national clientele.

Larger companies, on the other hand, could be classified as multinationals, with headquarters and satellite companies in multiple countries. In this case, the assessment will have to be extended to potential geopolitical tensions which may impact the valuation of the title.

Ultimately, investing in stock markets is a fascinating adventure that allows you to discover interesting companies and acquire new knowledge that broadens your horizons, but it is also an activity that requires constant updating.
