Bacoli – A cross sign engraved on the door and a smashed rearview mirror. These are the damages found on the car of Francesco Maisto, president of the Regional Park Authority of the Campi Flegrei, victim of an act of intimidation in recent days in the Phlegraean town.
Maisto filed a complaint with the Carabinieri, while the Park Authority, in a post on social media, wonders whether it was a foolish act or rather a message to stop the action of the organization, which has long been at the forefront of environmental protection and the fight against illegality.
The President informed the Governor Vincenzo De Luca, the Vice President with responsibility for the Environment Fulvio Bonavitacola and the Metropolitan Mayor Gaetano Manfredi of the incident.
(h3)Tensions over anti-abuse actions
In recent months, Maisto has promoted a series of repressive interventions against illegal occupations of areas of the park, including the closure of illegal parking lots managed by clandestine parking attendants, an operation that has generated discontent among those who unduly exploited those lands.
(h3)The President's reaction: "Let's move forward without fear"
Despite the threatening gesture, Maisto does not intend to stop. “We move forward with our heads held high and without fear,” he told ANSA. “We have worked intensely for the environment and the defense of the soil, and we will continue with determination to protect the park.”
The Carabinieri are verifying any possible connections between the vandalism and the recent anti-abuse operations conducted by the Authority. In the meantime, the incident turns the spotlight back on the pressures and intimidations that often hit those who fight for environmental legality.
