The Supervisory Magistrate of the Court of Avellino has granted the semi-liberty for Bartolomeo Massaro, 55 years old, considered one of the historical leaders of the homonymous Camorra clan active between the Suessola Valley and the Caudina Valley.
The provision was executed in acceptance of the request presented by theLawyer Vittorio Fucci and from Dr. Giuseppe Vittorio Fucci, and implements a previous decision of the Surveillance Court of Catania.
Massaro, originally from San Felice a Cancello and resident in Harpaia, is serving a conviction for double homicide aggravated by mafia methods and for Camorra association.
A prominent figure of the clan, he is also the son of Giovannina Sgambato, considered by the DDA the current regent of the criminal organization and involved in the latest major investigation that has hit the network of the criminal group.
The decision to grant the semi-liberty regime again comes after a previous revocation, arranged because of repeated violations of the prescriptions e threatening behaviors which had triggered the suspension of the benefit.
The return to semi-freedom of Massaro, although partial and subject to strict controls, it rekindles attention on prison management of clan leaders and on the potential risk of maintaining criminal ties even during detention.
