Another attack on a Penitentiary Police officer in the Benevento prison. The episode occurred yesterday: a Neapolitan prisoner with psychiatric problems he punched and slapped the policeman on duty, forcing him to be hospitalized with a 10-day prognosis.
The Sannio prison, where a 24-hour open regime is in force for some inmates, has already been the scene of numerous episodes of violence and critical issues which, according to the unions, are undermining security and the internal order of theinstitute.
“Working in the Benevento penitentiary is increasingly difficult – denounces the regional secretary of CON.SI.PE., Thomas De Lia –. The staff is exhausted, the workloads are excessive and the imbalance between duties and rights is putting the psychophysical stability of the agents at risk”.
The national vice-president of the union is on the same line, Louis Castaldo: “Urgent government intervention is needed to manage psychiatric inmates, who must be entrusted to suitable facilities with adequate medical treatment. The safety of operators must be a priority.”
CON.SI.PE. expressed full solidarity with the attacked officer, wishing him a speedy recovery.
