Four new ecomuseums, four souls of Campania that officially become part of the regional cultural system: the Campania Region, with the application of Regional Law 13/2023, has in fact recognized as Ecomuseums: MOSS – Diffused Ecomuseum of Scampia (Naples), Picentini Ecomuseum – The Lands of Happiness (Salerno), Transluoghi – Ecomuseum of Contemporary Bussento (Salerno) e ECuRu – Ecomuseum of Rural Kitchens of Alta Irpinia (Avellino).
A mosaic of territorial experiences that, on Wednesday 16 April at 11.00, will be told to citizens and institutions at the Chikù Center in Largo della Cittadinanza Attiva, in Naples, In the heart of Scampia, headquarters of the MOSS and the association who's Roma and…who's not. It will be an opportunity to present to the public the heritage, both material and immaterial, that these ecomuseums represent, through installations, community paths, living traditions and new perspectives on the landscape.
The event will see the participation of the main regional institutional figures: Valeria Ciarambino, vice-president of the Regional Council and promoter of the law on ecomuseums, Happy Casucci, Councillor for Administrative Simplification and Tourism, and Nicholas Caputo, Councilor for Agriculture. Also planned are interventions by schools and territorial networks that made the birth of these realities possible.
The law on ecomuseums has formally recognized years of silent and widespread work carried out by local communities to preserve, pass on and enhance the assets – tangible and intangible – that make up the true wealth of territories often considered marginal. Places that today are candidates to become widespread cultural hubs, capable of attracting visitors, generating reflection and stimulating new forms of training and work.
It's not just about museums, but about living spaces, in which memory, public art, landscape and sustainability intertwine in a dynamic network of relationships. Ecomuseums are thus proposed as engines of change, activators of social processes, tools of resilience and narration capable of facing contemporary challenges while remaining connected to the roots. The meeting on April 16 will also be a moment of conviviality and exchange: at the end, aperitif by La Kumpania, to literally savor the taste of a culture that is born from the territories and transforms them.
It's a nice project that helps to rediscover local traditions, but I wonder if these ecomuseums will really attract visitors or will they be just another initiative without substance. Let's hope it's not just a passing fad.
