Meanwhile, the funeral chapel will be set up at the Teatro San Carlo, as announced today by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi.
The last farewell to San Carlo
The mayor, also president of the Board of Directors of the Fondazione Teatro San Carlo, confirmed that Naples will pay homage to the great artist in the historic hall of the greatest Neapolitan theater. As a sign of mourning, flags will be flown at half-mast on the day of the funeral.
“A huge loss for Naples”
"It is a huge loss," Manfredi said. "De Simone was one of the most extraordinary interpreters of our city's culture. He was able to recover the roots of Neapolitan musical tradition, combining them with an extraordinary capacity for innovation. His is a heritage that must not be lost, a memory to be preserved. And we will honor him in the best way possible."
The mayor recalled that some initiatives in honor of De Simone had already been planned as part of the celebrations for the 2500th anniversary of the foundation of Naples, organized in collaboration with the San Carlo and the maestro's family. "We will strengthen these projects," added Manfredi, "and we will identify the best way to pay homage to this gigantic figure of Neapolitan culture."
