Il Christ the Redeemer of Maratea, symbol of the city and of the entire Basilicata, requires urgent restoration work: the alarm was raised by the Tourist Consortium of the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea, which, through a press release, has once again turned the spotlight on the state of conservation of the famous statue that dominates the Gulf of Policastro.
“This is a work of art that has marked and continues to mark the history not only of Maratea, but of the entire region”Said Biagio Salerno, president of the Consortium, underlining the need for timely intervention. “The statue needs a qualified restoration, not only for the damage caused by time, but also to correct some critical issues that emerged from a previous intervention”.
In addition to the redevelopment of the statue, the Consortium also highlights the importance of improving the access path, so that it can be used by everyone, including people with disabilities. “It is essential to ensure access for wheelchair users, as well as creating adequate toilet facilities for visitors”, added Salerno.
The appeal ends with a direct request to Region Basilicata and its president Vito Bardi, so that it can take charge of the issue and initiate a long-lasting restoration project. “We can no longer wait. It is time to secure the monument and ensure its enhancement for the future”, concluded Salerno.

The importance of Christ the Redeemer cannot be doubted, but how can you do a restoration without funds? The beauty of this statue is fundamental to Maratea, but I hope that the work does not slow down too much.
