Moments of tension in the early afternoon today, on Faito cableway, which connects Castellammare di Stabia at Mount Faito. Shortly after 15.00:XNUMX pm, due to a technical fault, a cable has come loose from the plant, ending up on the Circumvesuviana railway overhead line, below the cableway route.
The accident caused theimmediate blocking of cabins, which were carrying at that time 16 passengers. Fortunately, no one was injured. Rail traffic has been suspended on the route Pioppaino–Castellammare di Stabia–Sorrento, to allow for safety checks and technical interventions.
The first official communication came directly from Eav, the body managing the service:
"Due to a fault on the Faito cable car and a fallen cable on the Vesuvian railway's overhead line, rail traffic is temporarily suspended. The cable car is at a standstill, the safety system has locked the cabins, and operations are underway to safely disembark the 16 passengers, who were not injured. Technicians are working."

Passengers strapped in and made to get out of the cabin one at a time
Passengers in harness and made to get off one at a time from the cable car cabin suspended in the void, fortunately not far from the ground. This is the procedure adopted to get off the sixteen people stuck along the Faito cable car, stopped near the Circumvesuviana station in Castellammare di Stabia, where a cable fell onto the overhead railway line below.
The one who posted the video showing one of the passengers being made to get off was the president of Eav himself, Umberto De Gregorio, who posted the images on his Facebook page. The prefecture of NAPLES is coordinating the rescue operations.
The episode, which did not cause any harm to people but caused great concern, rekindles the spotlight on the need to periodic checks and constant maintenance to ensure the full efficiency of a system as evocative as it is delicate, used every year by thousands of tourists and commuters.

The Faito cable car incident was a very serious risk situation. We hope that the technical interventions were effective and that there will be no further problems in the future for the safety of passengers.
