NAPLES – Two young men of Moroccan origin, aged 22 and 23, were arrested for improper robbery after targeting a commercial activity in the heart of Piazza Garibaldi.
The two, already known to the police and illegal on the national territory, were stopped yesterday morning by the agents of the Vicaria-Mercato Police Station. The intervention was triggered following a report received by the Police Operations Room, which referred to a fight in progress inside a commercial establishment. Once they arrived on site, the agents found the owner of the shop in a state of obvious agitation.
The woman immediately pointed out the two young men to the police, who, upon seeing the patrol, tried to run away in a hurry. The escape attempt was short-lived: the two were caught and stopped by the officers, who found them in possession of several stolen items, including packets of gum, sweets and chocolate. According to the victim's story, the two had entered the store and stolen the products from the shelves, then physically attacked her in an attempt to ensure their escape.
The officers proceeded to arrest the two individuals, while the stolen goods were returned to the owner of the shop. The episode puts the spotlight back on the issue of security in the area of Piazza Garibaldi, already the subject of numerous interventions by law enforcement in recent months.

The arrest of these two young people seems necessary to me, but I hope that it is not just an isolated case. Security in Piazza Garibaldi is a big problem and more controls and interventions by the authorities are needed.
