Salerno – The Court of Cassation has annulled the decree issued by the Court of Appeal of Salerno against the regional councilor of Campania, Luca Cascone, in the context of the investigation involving the former president of the Province of Salerno, Franco Alfieri.
The decision of the sixth section of the Court of Cassation, which accepted Cascone's appeal, sends the case back to the Court of Appeal of Salerno for a new trial.
“The Court of Cassation has annulled with referral the decree with which I was charged with the crime of criminal association,” Cascone declared in a note. The regional councilor, elected president in the De Luca group, had been involved in the investigation into rigged tenders that led to Alfieri's arrest.
Cascone, defended by lawyers Cecchino Cacciatore, Massimo Ferrandino and Franco Coppi, expressed his hope that this decision could represent "a first step towards resolving a problem that unexpectedly involved me".
He also added that he was waiting "with serenity for the investigating bodies and the judiciary to continue their activities: to evaluate this sentence, and to continue the in-depth analysis and verification of all the documents and circumstances, to be able to confirm my total non-involvement in the facts that have been contested to me".
The regional councilor then underlined the difficulty of the past period, stating that they have been “difficult and heavy weeks and months psychologically (and not only) for me, for my family and for all the friends and people who love me (and us); from today it seems that we can start to see a faint light at the end of the tunnel”.

I read the article and it seems to me that the decision of the Court of Cassation was an important thing for Cascone. However, there are many aspects to consider and I do not know if everything will be resolved as he hopes.
