Naples – The hearing to validate the arrest for aggravated homicide and concealment of a corpse against Alessio Tucci, the 19-year-old who confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend Martina Carbonaro, will be held tomorrow in Poggioreale prison, Naples.
The tragic death of the 14-year-old from Afragola has shaken the community and reignited the debate on youth and gender violence.
Alessio Tucci is defended by the lawyer Mario Mangazzo, while the victim's parents are assisted by the lawyer Sergio Pisani. The Prosecutor's Office of Naples North has already set the assignment of the autopsy expert for June 3, which should take place on the same day and provide further crucial elements for the investigation.
The Attorney General's cry: "Exclude the force of oppression"
Martina's murder has sparked deep reactions and reflections in the judicial and social world. The Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Naples, Aldo Policastro, commented on the story on the sidelines of a conference, underlining the need for a cultural change.
“There is a problem of prevention, of culture, of training that cannot be addressed in a criminal court but within society, schools and educational agencies, the family, the media with messages that exclude the force of oppression from personal relationships”, Policastro declared.
The Prosecutor highlighted how “the force of oppression is becoming the paradigm that also characterizes public interventions”, negatively influencing young people.
“If we change the paradigm in human relationships, I'm not just talking about man-woman but man-man, and it becomes one of kindness and respect, then we can think that the paradigm will begin to change for young people too.”
Asked about the effectiveness of laws against violence against women, Policastro replied: “I think they are absolutely sufficient. We have very advanced and effective legislation and a judiciary that is making the most of this: we are working in all the investigating and judging offices to the maximum to guarantee speed and effectiveness. But we understand that it is not enough”.
The Appeal of the Regional Observatory: “Networking to contain the phenomenon”
The Campania Regional Observatory on the phenomenon of violence against women also intervened with a joint note, signed by Lidia Scotto di Vetta, Pietrina Bianco, Deborah Capasso de Angelis, Maria Ludovica Genna and Palma Silvestri.
The members of the Observatory have condemned “with indignation the brutality of the vile act committed” and have taken note of "the sad spread of such behaviors among young people, indicators of psycho-affective malaise and of educational, parental and social failure".
The Observatory is committed to “to be an active part in the urgent and effective implementation of coordination actions with educational, social and socio-health agencies in the Campania region to stem the phenomenon and contain the growing number of episodes of violence against all women, paying particular attention to the world of youth”.
The hope is to build a “a solid, highly connected network, aimed at achieving common goals: the return to emotional awareness, education in kindness, respect for gender differences and recognition of the other as an added value to the Self”.
The tragic end of Martina Carbonaro, a very young victim of violence, once again emphasizes the urgency of a coordinated and multifaceted intervention to address the roots of a phenomenon that continues to claim victims.
