Napoli – Two new departments, cutting-edge technologies, renovation of the facilities and attention to the needs of patients: the redevelopment of the Orthopedic Trauma Center (CTO), one of the key facilities of the Azienda Ospedaliera dei Colli, has been completed.
An investment of over 12,7 million euros, with resources earmarked for expanding the healthcare offering and improving healthcare efficiency in the heart of Naples.
The company's general manager, Anna Iervolino, presented the innovations, defining the works as "the result of a specific path, in line with regional planning and the health needs of a complex territory".
Also present was the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, who visited the new spaces this morning, underlining in particular the strengthening of the areas dedicated to rehabilitation and emergencies.
Two new departments: Emergency Medicine and Cardiology
The heart of the intervention concerns the opening of two new departments. The first, Emergency Medicine, has already become a national reference for the Italian Society of Emergency Medicine (SIMEU). Directed by Dr. Mario Guarino, it extends over 1.000 square meters with 18 beds, 4 of which are dedicated to sub-intensive care. The environments, designed to guarantee the psychophysical well-being of patients, include isolation rooms, an area for family meetings and a space reserved for the end of life.
The second newly built department is Cardiology, which now offers 10 beds for ordinary hospitalization, filling an existing structural gap. The expansion is part of the broader plan of the Regional Network of Advanced Heart Failure, with the aim of responding to a growing demand for specialized cardiovascular care.
Diagnostics and innovation: new Magnetic Resonance
Among the most significant interventions is the installation of a new magnetic resonance imaging system. Located in a purpose-built building next to the main facility, this technology will drastically reduce waiting times and avoid transferring patients to other hospitals for complex diagnostic tests. The device will also be functional for the work of the Emergency Department.
Focus on rehabilitation, sustainability and intensive care
Special attention was also paid to the rehabilitation area: the historic pool for motor rehabilitation has been completely renovated, improving its safety, functionality and aesthetics. A fundamental step to make the post-trauma path of patients more effective.
On the energy efficiency front, the CTO has been the subject of an intervention aimed at reducing heat loss, with the replacement of window frames and the insulation of attics and thermal bridges, to the advantage of management costs and environmental sustainability.
Finally, the Resuscitation and Intensive Care unit has been completely renovated: eight active beds, equipped with the latest generation of equipment including lung ventilators, multi-parameter monitors and anesthesia machines. A crucial enhancement, also considering the growing demand for high-intensity care.
A healthcare system that looks to the future
The CTO relaunch project is part of the regional strategy to strengthen hospital centers of excellence. “A concrete investment in public health and dignity of care,” De Luca emphasized, recalling the Campania Region’s commitment to improving the quality of care, starting with the redevelopment of facilities and the strengthening of professional skills.
