Naples is preparing for a month and a half without its airport. From January 19 to March 1, 2026, Capodichino will close for runway redevelopment work, a necessary intervention but with heavy repercussions.

“Forty days is too long, it is not just about tourists but about citizens who travel for health, work or emergencies”, warns Nino Simeone, president of the Infrastructure and Mobility Commission of the Municipality of Napoli.

To avoid the isolation of the city, Simeone urgently convened the Commission with the top management of Gesac. Among the proposals, dedicated shuttles to the Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi airport and connections to Rome Fiumicino, as well as an increase in Trenitalia trains to Salerno and the capital.

“We need a coordinated plan between institutions, managers and operators in the sector – taxis, NCC, tourist buses – which risk remaining at a standstill, together with hospitality businesses that could lose a million passengers”, he underlines.

Simeone asks for the intervention of the Mayor, councilors and Region, with an appeal to the Government: "Naples cannot be cut off. Gesac must guarantee solutions for citizens and workers". A race against time to avoid an economic and social "catastrophe".

It is a real problem to close the airport for forty days, especially for those who need to travel for work or health. I hope that there are quick and effective solutions to avoid creating too much inconvenience.
