NAPLES - “Hosting the 38th America's Cup is an extraordinary success for Naples and for all of Italy, a unique international showcase that will enhance the beauty and history of our territory”. Gaetano Manfredi, mayor of Naples and extraordinary commissioner for the regeneration of Bagnoli, comments on the announcement that in 2027 the Campania capital will host the most prestigious sailing tournament in the world.
A milestone that is the result of months of hard work alongside the Government, culminating in a victory that, according to the mayor, will produce an economic impact similar to that already recorded in cities such as Valencia and Barcelona. “We won an important competition, demonstrating that Naples is ready to manage large global events with seriousness and vision”, said Manfredi.
The regattas will take place in the stretch of water between Castel dell'Ovo and Posillipo, while the bases of the international teams will be located in the strategic area of Bagnoli. “The America's Cup - has explained - will be a decisive accelerator for the ongoing redevelopment. The interventions are already proceeding according to plan, but this event will give a further boost to tourism, the marine economy, local entrepreneurship and training”.
The mayor also underlined the symbolic value of the event, which comes at a historic moment for the city: “We will be the European capital of sport in 2026 and we will celebrate the 2.500th anniversary of the foundation of Naples. Sport, for us, is a lever for development and social cohesion”. Finally, thanks to the Government, the ministers involved and all those who believed in the candidacy: “Napoli is ready, and will show the world what it is capable of.”

The America's Cup is a great opportunity for Naples, but I hope the mayor and the government pay attention to the traffic and security problems that may arise. The city must be ready for this important event.
