Avellino – He mistook two Enel workers for thieves and fired a shotgun at them. An 80-year-old man, resident in Ariano Irpino, was arrested by the State Police for possession of an illegal weapon, while he and his son were reported for dangerous explosions and illegal possession of weapons.
The incident occurred on the night of May 13, when the two technicians were busy repairing a fault in the electrical line. The elderly man and his son allegedly approached with their car and the shotgun blast was fired from one of the windows.
Subsequent searches led to the discovery, in the 80-year-old's home, of several regularly registered weapons. However, the agents also discovered a rudimentary homemade weapon: a rifle barrel mounted on a wooden tripod, without a serial number, containing an unexploded buckshot cartridge. Investigations into the case continue.

This fact is really worrying. You can't confuse workers with thieves and react in this way. I hope that justice will take its course, but more education is needed in society.
It is incredible how some people can make such rash decisions. There should be more controls to avoid similar incidents in the future, because fear should not justify the use of weapons.
