Benevento - A 48-year-old local man of no fixed address, already known to law enforcement, was arrested by the Carabinieri on charges of assaulting healthcare workers and threatening a public official.
The incident occurred inside the SPDC (Psychiatric Diagnosis and Treatment Service) ward of the San Pio Hospital in Benevento, where the man had entered with the intention, according to the military's reconstruction, of obtaining hospitalization to spend the night.
The break-in was carried out stealthily. Once inside the ward, the 48-year-old encountered a doctor on duty and physically assaulted him, pushing him, spitting at him, and making serious threats to get him to agree to his immediate hospitalization.
Despite the understandable fear, the doctor managed to free himself from the attacker's grip and escape, finding refuge and immediately alerting the emergency number 112.

The episode is very worrying and shows how health workers are exposed to dangerous situations. More effective security measures should be implemented to prevent these violent acts, which should never happen in hospital.
