An organization specialized in the illicit trafficking of waste, active between 2021 and 2022 in Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Campania, ended up at the center of the operation “Golden Oil” coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Bologna.
The balance: 22 people and 2 companies investigated, 11 precautionary measures carried out by the Carabinieri of the Environmental Protection and Energy Security Group of Venice, with the support of the territorial Arma and the VII Helicopter Nucleus of Pontecagnano.
According to the investigations conducted by the Noe of Bologna, Treviso and Venice, the criminal association profited from the treatment and resale of exhausted vegetable oils, used for the production of biodiesel, through formally authorized companies. The charges range from criminal association to illegal waste trafficking, to abuse of office and ideological falsehood.
Also involved were individuals with economic interests abroad: commercial operations in Greece and Spain, relationships with Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Malta and Libya.
The investigating judge has ordered 5 house arrests, 3 residence restrictions and 3 bans on holding management roles in companies in the sector, in addition to the preventive seizure of the company assets of the companies involved. Also underway are 17 searches and as many environmental inspections at waste oil management plants.
