On Friday, May 23, at 18:30 p.m., the Casal di Principe Pro Loco headquarters at Via Giacomo Matteotti 10 will transform into an arena of local pride with the presentation of the book “199 – Il genio del tiro,” a fictionalized autobiography of Olympic champion Angelo “Peppino” Scalzone.

Promoted by Pro Loco and the POLISIDEE Association, this event is not just a chat between the lines, but an explosion of sporting memories that celebrates the roots of a land known for its unstoppable talents, this time in the good sense of the word.

The story of a record-breaking coup

Written by Antonio Leone, the book retraces the meteoric career of Scalzone, who won the gold medal in the Olympic Trap Shooting event at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. With a stratospheric score of 199 out of 200 – still an Olympic record for 200-skeet events – this champion transformed a simple sport into an Italian legend, the fruit of passion and sacrifice that would make modern screen stars pale.

Voices from the territory

"The main goal of the Pro Loco is to promote the area's excellence. Through the presentation of this book, we are once again raising awareness of Casal di Principe and those who have shaped its history ," said cultural director Roberto Fusciello. " We need to celebrate personalities who have brought prestige to our town, positive examples from which to draw inspiration, thus fostering a renewed pride in belonging to these lands ." " Casal di Principe is a fertile land, in every sense. It is the birthplace of outstanding figures like Angelo Scalzone, an Olympic champion who still deserves our applause and grateful memory today, " said Marisa Diana, president of the POLISIDEE civic-cultural association. " Peppino, as everyone called him, is a figure who deserves to be better known, especially by younger generations, who will find in him a role model to emulate . " All citizens are called to gather for this emotionally charged event, an unmissable opportunity to honor a local icon who has propelled the Casal di Principe name to the top of the world.

Scalzone's book is an interesting work and it seems important to me for the territory. But I don't understand how we can talk about local pride if there aren't many similar initiatives in the past. I hope that this presentation can really lead to greater visibility for Casal di Principe.
