Castellammare di Stabia - A 49-year-old convicted felon, identified as AA and resident of Torre Annunziata, was arrested red-handed by the State Police on charges of aggravated theft.
The man was caught while attempting to break into the self-service toll booths at the Castellammare di Stabia motorway toll booth, located on the A3 Salerno-Pompeii-Naples motorway.
The intervention of the Angri Highway Police officers was triggered following a report received by the Naples Highway Police Operations Center, indicating a theft in progress at the self-service toll booths.
Arriving immediately on site, the patrol identified an individual whose features corresponded to the description provided, still intent on tampering with one of the self-service machines.

Upon seeing the police, the man attempted a desperate escape, quickly crossing the Telepass lanes. However, his escape was short-lived: the officers promptly chased him and stopped him nearby.
During the subsequent personal search, the 49-year-old was found in possession of burglary tools, including a screwdriver and several metal rods, presumably used to force the mechanisms of the cash registers and withdraw the money. Coins recently removed from the toll booths were also found on him.
Given the crime's flagrant nature and the man's criminal record, he was immediately arrested for aggravated theft. AA was then taken to holding cells to await a summary hearing, during which he will have to answer for his actions before the judicial authorities.
The episode once again highlights the attention of law enforcement in combating predatory crimes along road infrastructure.

This news is very interesting and makes you think about the level of security in public places like highway toll booths, but it is also a shame that there are still people who commit crimes like this.
