The victim showed up at the Carabinieri station shortly before 2 a.m., reporting that she had been attacked with a weapon by her husband, who had then barricaded himself in the house with their two children, aged 5 and 8.
The military of the Torre Annunziata company, the Pompei station and a negotiator of the investigative unit intervened immediately. The situation immediately appeared critical: the man, a 40-year-old suffering from mental disorders and who had stopped treatment for some time, refused to open the door and communicate with the outside.
The eerie silence coming from inside the apartment, where there were fears for the children's safety, increased the tension.
After two hours of negotiations the man opened the door to a policeman he knew
After almost two hours of negotiation, around 3:53, it was a carabiniere who knew the man personally who convinced him to open the door. Inside the house, a pool of blood: the attack had been carried out with unprecedented violence.
The two children, fortunately unharmed, were found asleep in their bedroom and immediately entrusted to their family.
The woman undergoing surgery
The man was stopped and transferred to the psychiatric department of the Torre del Greco hospital. He was arrested on charges of attempted murder. The 34-year-old, rushed to the San Leonardo hospital in Castellammare di Stabia, underwent surgery for a serious wound to the back of the head, probably caused by a wooden salt spreader seized during the scientific inspection. She also has several bruises and cuts all over her body, as well as clear signs of beatings to her face.
The investigations of police are underway to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the attack and ascertain any previous episodes of domestic violence.
