A new, heavy blow has fallen on Circumvesuviana commuters. The Naples-Baiano line will be suspended for over four months: from May 21 to September 30, 2025, trains will stop to allow for the demolition and subsequent reconstruction of a railway overpass that is no longer safe. This was announced by Eav, the Autonomous Body of Volturno, explaining that it had only received the green light from Rfi to proceed with the intervention on May 14.
The bridge, located at kilometer 11+840 of the route and crossed by Eav trains above and Trenitalia trains below, has been under monitoring for some time and subject to a mandatory slowing of the trains to 10 km per hour. A situation no longer sustainable: “It was urgent to intervene for security reasons,” explain from the transport holding.
The demolition of the old overpass will take place between May 21 and 31, while the new structure will be installed starting from September 17. At the same time, extraordinary works will also be carried out on other points of the line, including the tunnel. St. George-Volla, the laying of tunnels for new signalling systems and the renewal of the armament in the yards of some stations.
During the interruption period, a replacement bus service will be active, already tested last summer, and agreed with the municipalities involved. The railway line, already affected by a low turnout especially in the summer period, will thus be temporarily filled with buses.
Meanwhile, on the sections not affected by the works, as soon as the authorizations from Ansfisa have arrived, the first Stadler train will start its test runs, expected to be in operation by the end of the year. The meeting with the unions is scheduled for May 22, while the timetables and details of the replacement plan will be published on the official website www.eavsrl.it. A necessary decision, but one that will weigh on yet another hot summer for transport in Campania.

This news about the suspension of the Naples-Baiano line is very worrying for those who use trains daily. We hope that the work will be finished on time and that the replacement service will be effective, so as not to have too many inconveniences.
