Naples - Joy and satisfaction in Naples at the official awarding of the 38th edition of the America's Cup, the prestigious international sailing competition, which will be held in 2027.
The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, announced this important milestone, expressing his "great joy and that of the entire city."
"It's a great victory for Naples and for the country," the mayor enthusiastically declared on the sidelines of the eagerly awaited stage of the Giro d'Italia.Napoli and Italy will play the role they deserve, and we hope to bring good luck to Luna Rossa because we are also fans. The city will offer an extraordinary setting."
Manfredi revealed that he had been confirmed as having been awarded the title "a few days ago," noting that the work of preparing the bid began several months ago, with several secret visits by the New Zealand team, the defending champions.
"We have worked with the government over the past few months to prepare a highly complex dossier, rich in technical marine meteorological aspects, competitive with other cities that had submitted applications," the mayor explained.

"We had some very strong, aggressive, and well-supported competitors, but we also received strong support from the government, the Prime Minister's Office, and Minister Abodi. We all did our part to uphold Italy's reputation."
An achievement made possible, according to Manfredi, by the ability to showcase "our beauty, our history, but above all all our professionalism, with the best technicians on our team, our organization that really impressed the New Zealand team when, incognito, they visited."
While acknowledging the "huge organizational challenge" the event poses, the mayor expressed confidence: "Naples is now a year-round tourist destination that welcomes millions of visitors, and we're well organized."
The awarding of the America's Cup also represents an opportunity to accelerate the redevelopment and regeneration projects in the Bagnoli area. "We're moving forward at great speed in Bagnoli," Manfredi emphasized.
"Pairing competitive sailing with a major urban redevelopment project demonstrates how sport can be an opportunity for redemption. We still have a lot of work to do, but I'm very confident we'll make a great impression."

The awarding of the America's Cup to Naples is a very important fact for the city and for Italy, but there are also many challenges to face. I hope that everything goes well, even if there are many things to fix before the event.
