Naples - A new era for air connections between the Campania and Canada opened today with the inauguration of the first direct flight Naples-Montreal operated by Air Canada.
Canada's largest airline and national carrier celebrated its debut at the Naples airport, from where a Boeing 787 Dreamliner took off for the main Canadian hub.
This new intercontinental connection is an absolute first, being the only direct flight between Naples and Canada. It adds to Air Canada's existing routes from Rome, Milan and Venice, significantly expanding travel options for Italian passengers heading to North America and beyond, while also making it easier for Canadian tourists and business travellers to arrive in Campania.
The choice of Naples as a new strategic departure point for transatlantic routes was dictated by its privileged position on the western coast of Italy. The new service is designed to intercept both the demand of Italian travellers seeking relief from the Canadian summer heat, and the interest of Canadian passengers attracted by the charm of the Mediterranean summer and the authenticity of Southern Italy.
A particularly important aspect of this new route is the strengthening of connections to the United States. The flight schedules have been designed to ensure convenient connections, via Montreal, to important American cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Boston and San Francisco.
In a context of exponential growth of North American tourism in Italy, this connection significantly strengthens the ties between the two nations, offering travelers the opportunity to complete U.S. customs procedures while transiting through the Montreal airport.
The seasonal Naples-Montréal flight will operate four times a week, with departures from the Campania capital every Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday morning, with a flight time of just over nine hours. Return flights from Montreal are scheduled for every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening, arriving in Naples the following morning.
Passengers will be able to enjoy this new service until October, travelling aboard Air Canada’s modern Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with the option to choose between Signature Class, Premium Economy and Economy cabins, for a flying experience in comfort and style.
Stefano Casaregola, Air Canada General Manager for Italy, expressed his satisfaction: “The new Naples-Montréal connection started successfully over the weekend, offering Italian travellers a further opportunity to cross the Atlantic.
As a leading airline between Europe and Canada, Air Canada continues to demonstrate its commitment to the Italian market, creating new opportunities for tourism and business. This new route joins the flights already operated from Rome, Milan and Venice, and comes at the perfect time to allow Italians to discover the natural and urban wonders of Canada.”
Canadian Ambassador to Italy Elissa Goldberg enthusiastically commented: “I am delighted to celebrate the launch of this new direct flight between Montreal and Naples — two vibrant and historic cities.
This connection represents much more than just a flight path between two destinations: it is an opportunity to deepen an already strong partnership between Canada and Italy, and to further strengthen our collaborations in business, innovation, education, culture and more. I look forward to seeing how this bridge across the Atlantic will spark new ideas, strengthen communities and bring our people even closer together.”
Laurence Fouquette-L'Anglais, Representative of the Government of Quebec in Italy, also underlined the importance of the new connection: “Today we are celebrating much more than the launch of a new air route.
We celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between Québec and Campania with their innovative and globally connected ecosystems and their cultural and gastronomic metropolises: Montréal and Naples. A chapter marked by closer collaboration, more intense exchanges and new opportunities in all sectors.”
Roberto Barbieri, CEO of GESAC, concluded: “The launch of the direct flight Naples-Montréal represents a significant milestone for the Naples airport and for the entire region.
We are proud to welcome Air Canada to our network, thus strengthening the intercontinental offering of the airport and enhancing connections with North America, a strategic area for tourism, business and cultural relations. Montreal, a major international hub and a city with a strong Italian-Canadian presence, is now even closer, consolidating the role of Naples as a privileged gateway to Southern Italy”.

It's nice to hear that there are new flights from Naples to Montreal, but I have some concerns about how the connections to other cities in America will be. I hope the service lives up to the expectations of passengers.
I think this new flight could benefit tourism in Campania, but I wonder if the ticket prices will be accessible to everyone. Convenience is important but cost also matters.
Certainly a step forward for connections between Italy and Canada, but let's not forget the bureaucratic difficulties that are often encountered when traveling between different countries.
