Aversa – A nurse was attacked last night by an inmate in the prison of Aversa, in the province of CasertaThe episode, reported by Sappe (Autonomous Union of Penitentiary Police) through the regional vice-secretary Raffaele Munno, occurred in Ward VIII shortly before the cells closed at 21 pm.
The prisoner, enraged by the refusal to receive a treatment he felt was due, hit the nurse with a slap in the face.
“A very serious fact,” Munno emphasizes, highlighting the lack of personnel: only five agents were on duty for the entire institute, with multiple tasks and eight-hour shifts. “Security has vanished, there is a lack of reinforcements and the rights of the personnel are trampled upon,” he adds, lamenting the merging of service positions and the lack of workplace well-being.

Although considered quieter than other penitentiaries, the Aversa prison suffers particularly from a lack of staff, amplified by the arrival of problematic inmates.
Donato Capece, secretary general of Sappe, speaks of a national situation of “unheard of gravity”, with suicides, assaults and escapes on the rise due to the “dismantling of security policies”.
Among the critical issues, the presence of almost 20.000 foreign prisoners out of a total of 62.000, the dynamic surveillance, the open regime and the abolition of sentries on the surrounding walls. Capece also denounces the lack of funds for anti-intrusion systems and the insufficient staff, asking for urgent interventions from politics.
