He was locked in a cage, unable to fly, probably a prisoner since he was just a chick that fell from the nest. A male kestrel, a bird of prey of the species Falco tinnunculus, was seized by the Forestry Carabinieri of Montesarchio together with the agents of the Metropolitan Police of Naples and the volunteer guards of the LIPU.
The operation took place on the premises of a 60-year-old local man, in the province of Benevento, where the animal was illegally held. The falcon, due to its long confinement, never learned to fly. A serious condition that prompted the authorities to immediately entrust it to the Cras of Naples, a specialized center of the ASL Napoli 1 for the rehabilitation of wild fauna.
The owner of the house was reported at large to the Public Prosecutor's Office Benevento on charges of illegal possession of wild fauna and receiving stolen goods. The kestrel, like all diurnal birds of prey, is protected by special regulations for its fundamental role in safeguarding natural and urban balances. The operation once again underlines the importance of environmental surveillance and awareness-raising against the illegal possession of wild species.
