Starting next Thursday, audiences will be able to immerse themselves in the world of crime and passion in "MalAmore" by director Francesca Schirru, which arrives in Italian cinemas through 01 Distribution.

Moderup, authors of the captivating track "Cicatrici" featured on the soundtrack, will meet the public in three special events in Neapolitan cinemas: Thursday, May 8th at 20:30 pm (UCI Cinemas Casoria), Friday, May 9th at 21:30 pm (THE SPACE Napoli) and Saturday, May 10th at 21:30 pm (THE SPACE Nola).

The film, which explores love and friendship, was produced by Altre Storie in collaboration with Rai Cinema. The project received funding from the Ministry of Culture and the support of the Puglia Region through the Apulia Film Commission, as well as the Lazio Region.

MalAmore: cast and plot

The cast boasts prominent performers such as Giulia Schiavo (known for "The Patriarch" and "Skam Italia"), Simone Susinna (protagonist of "365 Days"), Antonella Carone ("Spaccapietre"), Antonio Orlando ("The Traitor", "The First King"), Simon Grechi ("Tutti pazzi per amore 2") and Domenico Fortunato ("Ferrari", "Spectre").

The story revolves around Mary (played by Giulia Schiavo), a young woman trapped in a toxic relationship with Nunzio (Simone Susinna), an imprisoned criminal married to the clan leader Carmela (Antonella Carone).

Mary's encounter with Giulio (Simon Grechi), a new riding instructor, represents a chance for redemption and freedom. When she decides to go away for a few days, Nunzio, his pride wounded, enlists Michele (Antonio Orlando), Mary's childhood friend, to persuade her to reconsider her plans. Once released from prison, Nunzio will vent his anger in a corrupt environment where, paradoxically, love and friendship emerge as the only elements of subversion and renewal.

The themes of the film

A universal story that moves, shakes and makes you think. Francesca Schirru's directorial debut stands out for its originality in exploring timely themes. Using the crime genre as a narrative framework, the director explores the dynamics of love and friendship within the context of organized crime, offering a glimpse into a contemporary society dominated by the logic of power and oppression.

The screenplay, written by Schirru herself together with Cesare Fragnelli, took place between Rome and various locations in Puglia, including Brindisi, Francavilla, Torre Santa Sabina, Carovigno and Ostuni.

Musical contribution by Moderup

A distinctive element of the film is the presence of the song "Cicatrici" by Moderup, which accompanies one of the film's most intense moments and was also chosen for the official trailer. During the events on Friday the 9th in Naples and Saturday the 10th in Nola, the rap group will treat audiences to a live performance of the song.

Behind the scenes, the film benefits from the talent of Filippo Silvestris for photography, Walter Caprara for the scenography, Magda Accolti Gil for the costumes and Piero Parisi for the sound. The original music was composed by Matteo Passarelli, while the editing is the work of Mauro Ruvolo.

This movie looks interesting but I'm not sure if I'll like it. The themes of love and crime are always complicated, I hope it's well done and not too predictable. I'm waiting to see how the plot develops.
