Fear at Pantelleria airport during a display of the Frecce Tricolori. Three aircraft of the Air Force acrobatic team were involved in an accident during the landing phase, at the end of the show planned as part of the opening to the public of the military detachment on the island.
According to an initial reconstruction, a plane went off the runway, losing a wheel and damaging part of the fuselage.

The rescue teams and the police forces present at the airport intervened immediately. The causes of the accident are still unclear: a technical failure, a bird strike or a mid-air contact between two aircraft of the formation cannot be ruled out. The accident triggered the emergency procedures during the event, which included the opening of the base gates and a visit to the “Nervi” hangar.
