His body, found in the Po River in Turin on February 19, was identified only in recent days thanks to DNA testing, as announced by the mayor of Mondragone, Francesco Lavanga.
“Rayan disappeared on January 30 and his body was found in the river on February 19, without documents and a cell phone. It took months to identify him, which was done a few days ago by comparing his DNA with that of his mother”, the mayor specified.
Although no signs of violence were found on the young man's body, investigators are not ruling out any hypothesis at the moment, including a voluntary gesture. The investigations, coordinated by the Turin prosecutor's office and conducted by the State Police, are continuing at 360 degrees, also in light of the recent identification that could open up new investigative scenarios, focusing for example on who could have helped Rayan on his journey to northern Italy.
The boy lived with his mother
Rayan's disappearance had the entire community of Mondragone in suspense. The boy, a model student at the classical high school, lived with his mother and, apparently, had suffered from his parents' separation, showing episodes of being away from home in the past, so much so that he was followed by social services.
On the day of his disappearance, Rayan had gone away on his bicycle wearing a dark tracksuit and white Nike shoes, carrying two backpacks. His mother had launched desperate appeals, also through the program “Chi l'ha visto?”, and several reports had arrived, fueling the hope of finding him alive. Among these, a woman had reported seeing him in Rome, near a bus stop in Rebibbia, with his black bicycle. Unfortunately, it was an illusion.
“I cannot find words that can fill such an unjust and heartbreaking pain,” wrote Mayor Lavanga in a moving post on Facebook, expressing “the bewilderment of the entire Mondragone community” and expressing “closeness to the family and friends.” The mayor also announced that a moment of mourning will be proclaimed in the coming days in memory of Rayan. “Rest in peace little Rayan”, concluded Lavanga.
The tragic conclusion of the story casts a shadow of sadness on the community of Mondragone, which now awaits answers from the investigations to shed full light on this painful loss.

This is really a sad situation and I can't understand how something like this could happen. Rayan was a young man with a future ahead of him, hopefully the investigation will lead to some answers for his family.
