Naples – A night of tight controls in the heart of Neapolitan nightlife. The Carabinieri of the Naples center company, supported by the soldiers of the Campania regiment, by the municipal police officers and by the personnel of the ASL Naples 1, have combed through the “baretti” of Chiaia in an extraordinary operation aimed at guaranteeing safety and compliance with regulations.
The service, which continued until the first light of day, led to the identification of 303 young people and the control of 75 vehicles. Particular attention was paid to compliance with the rules of the highway code, with the consequent seizure of 11 scooters due to the failure of the drivers to wear helmets.
Young man arrested with 22cm knife
During the operations, the Carabinieri intercepted a 22-year-old who was wandering among the crowd with a knife of 22 centimeters hidden in his pockets. The young man was immediately reported to the competent authorities for illegal possession of a bladed weapon.
The control activity also concerned the phenomenon of illegal parking. The military reported two people, already recipients of urban Daspo (Dacur), who continued to illegally exercise the activity of parking attendant.
A further intervention involved a 39-year-old, reported to the Judicial Authority for having violated the provisions imposed by the special surveillance to which he was subjected.
The synergy between the police and the ASL has also allowed us to ascertain serious hygiene and health deficiencies in some commercial activities. In one emblematic case, the Carabinieri reported an employee of a place who continued to sell drinks despite the immediate closure ordered by the ASL a few minutes before due to the precarious hygiene conditions. The man, heedless of the measure, continued his evening as if nothing had happened.
Two premises closed due to lack of hygiene
Further checks led to the fine and suspension of activity for two other premises in the area, which were also found not to comply with health and hygiene regulations.
The joint operation demonstrates the firm will of the police to keep the attention high on the Neapolitan nightlife, ensuring not only the safety of citizens but also the respect of the rules and the protection of public health. The extraordinary checks in the "baretti" of Chiaia represent a clear signal in the fight against illegality and urban decay.

The situation in Naples seems very complicated, and controls are necessary to ensure safety. However, I wonder if these interventions are truly effective in the long term to improve nightlife and compliance with the rules.
