Naples – At Porta Capuana , the historic heart of the city, criminals operate undisturbed. A video released by Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli following a tip-off from a resident captures yet another theft: two individuals, armed with a hose, steal a motorcycle in just 20 seconds, ignoring the alarm and security cameras.
“Theft is now routine, legality a mirage,” denounces Borrelli, who has been fighting urban decay and petty crime for years. “Cameras and alarms do not stop thieves, who act in the certainty of impunity. Porta Capuana, a symbol of ancient Naples, is abandoned to drug dealing, violence and decay. The citizens, exasperated, feel alone.”
The MP launches an appeal: “Concrete interventions are needed: more police forces, certain penalties, urban and social regeneration.
Without work and decorum, security remains a utopia. Naples can no longer look the other way: we owe it to those who resist every day”.

It is true that crime is a serious problem in Naples, but perhaps we should also look at the factors that generate it. Many people are unemployed and without hope, so it is difficult to blame them. We need deeper solutions.
