Eleven electric bicycles transformed into illegal mopeds, all seized; 49 fines issued, of which 6 for driving without a license and one for a vehicle already seized. These are the results of the control operation carried out yesterday by the Local Police of Napoli, with the support of the GIT (Motorcyclists) and San Lorenzo units, in some of the busiest streets in the centre: Piazza Giovanni Leone, Corso Garibaldi and Via Cesare Rosaroll.
The illegal vehicles
The electric bikes checked, subjected to technical verification by experts from the Ministry of Transport, were found to be modified to exceed the speed and power limits set by law, effectively becoming mopeds in all respects, but without the necessary license plates, insurance and approvals.
The contested infringements
In addition to the seizure of the 11 vehicles, the officers found:
6 drivers without a license
1 expired license
No vehicles covered by insurance
1 fine for driving with a vehicle already seized
The security alarm
“These vehicles, if not compliant, are dangerous both for those who drive them and for other road users,” explained a spokesperson for the Local Police. “Many exceed 25 km/h, becoming real threats to pedestrians and motorists, especially in congested areas such as the historic center.”
The operation is part of a broader campaign to combat the illegal use of electric vehicles. “We will continue with surprise raids throughout the city,” warn the Local Police.
