Naples – Two serious traffic accidents rocked Naples overnight and into the morning, with a foreign pedestrian seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver in Piazza Museo and a massive pile-up that paralyzed the Galleria Laziale.
The dramatic episode occurred during the night between Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May, around Piazza Museo, a few steps from the prestigious National Archaeological Museum. A man, of Bangladeshi origin according to initial information, was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street.
The impact was violent and, according to initial reconstructions, the driver of the vehicle did not stop to provide assistance, which constitutes a serious case of failure to provide assistance.
The Local Police of Naples intervened immediately. An ambulance from 118 of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro also arrived on the scene, whose staff stabilized the injured man and transported him urgently, in red code, to the Emergency Room of the Vecchio Pellegrini Hospital.

Despite the initially critical conditions, a subsequent check-up established a 30-day prognosis for the man, who suffered several injuries due to the impact. The Local Police is now working to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident and does not exclude the acquisition of images from video surveillance cameras in the area to identify the hit-and-run driver.
Accident at dawn also in the Galleria Laziale
The morning was marked by another accident, which occurred around 7:00 in the Galleria Laziale, a crucial artery that connects the Fuorigrotta and Mergellina neighborhoods. A massive pile-up involving five vehicles left two people injured.
The tunnel was immediately closed to traffic to allow for rescue and survey operations, causing significant disruption to traffic. Fortunately, the situation returned to normal shortly before 9:00 am with the reopening of the tunnel.
These two serious accidents in quick succession have brought the spotlight back on road safety in Naples, with particular attention to the phenomenon of pirates of the road and the need for greater caution and respect for the rules of the highway code. The investigations of the Local Police are now focused on identifying the person responsible for the accident in Piazza Museo, so that he can answer for his serious actions.
