Naples – An Italian citizen returning from Mexico was caught at Capodichino airport with an unusual and dangerous “souvenir” in his luggage: six knuckledusters equipped with a built-in Taser.
The operation, conducted by the financial police of the Capodichino Company in collaboration with officials of the Customs and Monopolies Agency - Office 1 SOT Naples Capodichino, is part of the constant activities of prevention and repression of illicit trafficking in the Neapolitan port.
The passenger, who landed in Naples after a stopover at Rome Fiumicino, hid the six deadly objects inside his suitcase. These are knuckledusters capable of emitting high-voltage electric shocks upon contact with a person.
The discovery at the customs controls of Capodichino airport
The discovery was made during routine checks carried out by customs authorities and the Guardia di Finanza.
The improper weapons were immediately seized and the person responsible was reported at large for the crime of illegal possession of weapons or objects capable of causing offence.
The episode confirms the profitable operational synergy between the Customs and Monopolies Agency and the Guardia di Finanza of Naples in combating the illegal introduction of dangerous goods into the national territory. Investigations continue to ascertain the final destination of the Taser-knuckledusters and whether the man was acting alone or on behalf of third parties.
