Naples – The Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples has ordered the 12-month suspension from public office of two medical directors of ASL Napoli 2 Nord, assigned to the UOC of Forensic Medicine.
The order was issued following an investigation conducted by the Flying Squad - Anti-Corruption Section, which found serious irregularities within the Special Licences Commission.
The charges: false presences and damage to the treasury
The two doctors – the President and Secretary of the commission, respectively – are accused of having altered the minutes of the meetings, making the President appear to be present even when he was absent, in order to receive undue compensation.

The investigation and the evidence
The checks have shown that, on several occasions, the President was supposed to be present at the meetings without actually being so, while the Secretary would have covered up the irregularities. The investigation, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office, could now be expanded to verify any complicity.
With the application of the precautionary measure, the two doctors were temporarily removed from their positions, pending the development of the judicial proceedings. The ASL Napoli 2 Nord will now have to appoint new managers to ensure the regular functioning of the commission.
The episode puts the spotlight back on corruption in the healthcare sector, while the Prosecutor's Office evaluates further developments.
