After a long trail of robberies, Farmacia Russo on Via Simone Martini, in Vomero, decided to react. And it did so by installing a fog burglar alarm, a system that releases dense smoke to disorient thieves and force them to flee.
The latest burglary attempt, in fact, failed thanks to the security device. But it doesn't end there: the owner wanted to send a direct message to the burglars with a message appearing on the pharmacy's illuminated sign. The text, both ironic and cutting, reads: "This time you had to run away like rabbits."
A way to say that, at least this time, prevention won. And also the word.
“Dear thieves,” are the words that appeared on the screen and addressed to the robbers, “I warned you the last time you came to visit my pharmacy (1st theft August 14th, 2nd theft January 4th, 3rd theft tonight May 4th), that I would have the cash registers empty. I always keep my promises.
I have to say I was a little mean this time, because I didn't inform you that I was going to install the fog system.

I love Naples and it will not be you with these vile and petty acts that will make me change my mind or, even worse, induce me to leave the profession that I love.
Therefore, I warn you that the next time you come I will have yet another surprise for you. In the meantime, I say goodbye and wish you a terrible job, like the one tonight. I forgot: Forza Napoli, always!”
"Dr. Russo's initiative fully represents the Neapolitan spirit, that of a people who bend but do not break, who do not give up and find original and creative ways to overcome adversity. Congratulations to him" - commented the Green-Sinistra alliance deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli -
“Beyond the hope and smile that the pharmacy message has given us, not everyone has the means and strength to combat a phenomenon, that of thefts and robberies, which has been rampant in the area for years.
It is up to the institutions to fight and contain crime. We expect much more from them than words, many have been spent, but very few have had the pleasure of making the leap in quality and seeing them transformed into facts. Actually, I correct myself, the facts have been there, they have closed barracks and police stations, they have weakened the uniforms. Crime is very grateful”

It's a nice gesture by Dr. Russo, but I don't think that an anti-theft system is enough to stop thieves. We also need more security in general and less words, people are afraid and want to feel safe in their stores.
