He was trying to pull off yet another mirror scam, but it went badly for him. Yesterday morning, in the center of Naples, a 39-year-old man with a criminal record, including specific ones for fraud, was arrested by the agents of the Vicaria-Mercato Police Station after trying to extort 50 euros from an elderly driver.
The scam took place on Corso Garibaldi . The man staged a fake accident, making the victim believe he had damaged the mirror on her car. After hitting the vehicle with an object to simulate the impact, he began honking his horn insistently, forcing the unsuspecting driver to pull over. As soon as he was stopped, the 39-year-old demanded 50 euros as "compensation" for damage that never occurred.
The scene, however, did not go unnoticed. Some passers-by alerted the Police Operations Room, which sent a patrol to the scene. The officers caught the scammer red-handed, while he was arguing heatedly with the elderly man. After listening to the victim's testimony and ascertaining the dynamics, the 39-year-old was immediately stopped and arrested.
